## About

This is the 635th Subscription Concert of the Busan Philharmonic Orchestra, founded in 1962 and holding the third-longest history in South Korea. Under the subtitle 'there is a crack in everything', it presents Tchaikovsky's Suite No. 4 'Mozartiana' - 'Prayer', Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 1, and Schumann's Symphony No. 2. The Busan Philharmonic Orchestra was the first Korean orchestra to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York in 1997, and was recorded as the first Asian orchestra invited to perform at the closing concert of Musikfest Berlin in 2025.

It will be conducted by Baek Seung-hyun, who has been serving as the associate conductor of the Busan Philharmonic Orchestra and principal conductor of the Busan Youth Philharmonic Orchestra since 2023. He studied conducting at Seoul National University and Nuremberg University of Music in Germany, and co-won the Ernst von Schuch Prize in 2021.

The soloist, violinist Kim Dong-hyun, placed third at the 16th Tchaikovsky Competition in 2019 at the age of 19, achieving the highest record for a Korean violinist, and plays a 1763 Guadagnini sponsored by the Kumho Cultural Foundation.

Kim is building a solid career as a musician. At the 16th International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2019, he won third prize in the violin category at the age of 19, the highest placing by a Korean violinist, and drew strong attention from both the jury and audiences. In Korea he was artist in residence at Kumho Art Hall in 2022 and at Mapo Art Center in 2024, and is invited several times a year to venues such as the Seoul Arts Center, Lotte Concert Hall and Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, performing recitals, concertos and chamber music. With residencies at Busan Citizens' Hall from 1974 and Busan Cultural Center from 1988, it established itself as a professional orchestra and is today one of Busan's leading cultural institutions. A full orchestra with quadruple winds, the Busan Philharmonic broadens the audience for classical music and enriches the cultural life of Busan's citizens through its subscription concerts as well as education concerts, a chamber music series, community outreach performances and late-night concerts.

The orchestra takes part in the SAC Symphony Festival every year and has toured successfully in the United States, Germany, China, Japan, Singapore

and elsewhere. In 1997 it became the first Korean orchestra to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York, and in 2025 it became the first Asian orchestra invited to give the closing concert of Musikfest Berlin.
