About the Ensemble

RCO Brass

With a perfect balance of brilliance, warmth and precision, RCO Brass brings the orchestral brass sound vividly to life, intimate and majestic at once.

The trumpet, horn, trombone and tuba players of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, together form a brass ensemble. Known as "RCO Brass," the ensemble presents a varied and dynamic brass repertoire through concerts and master classes. It plays in formations from trios to large groups of up to 20 players, sometimes joined by percussion.

The ensemble has performed throughout Europe, North America and Asia, and in the United States drew attention for joint concerts with the brass sections of the New York Philharmonic and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. It has toured Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Costa Rica, Türkiye, Luxembourg, Germany and Switzerland, and returned to Japan and China in 2025.

Combining technical perfection with musical storytelling, RCO Brass sets a new standard for brass ensembles.

In the Netherlands, the ensemble gives a concert series every year in the Main Hall of the Royal Concertgebouw. It has appeared at the Amsterdam Canal Festival and at the Giromania festival marking the start of the Giro d'Italia, and has performed at the reopening of the Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar and the 125th-anniversary celebration of Royal Theater Carré.

Its members also teach at leading music institutions in the Netherlands and abroad, and are active as soloists. RCO Brass has inspired a number of composers to write new works for it, and works closely with its principal arranger, Steven Verhaert. The ensemble has released two albums on the RCO Live label and recently produced a live-streamed concert from the Concertgebouw.
