## About

This is the sixth performance of the Nakdong Art Center's 'Young Soloists' series, which introduces the debut stages of young musicians in Busan, featuring a recital by cellist Somi Shin, who is based in Busan. It was planned as a stage to celebrate the opening of the Nakdong Art Center in 2026 and announce the start of a new cultural ecosystem.

She greets the audience warmly with a lyrical piece by Frank Bridge, and displays the cello's technique and artistry as a solo instrument with Ysaÿe's Solo Sonata. In the second half, she completes a musical journey encompassing the UK, Belgium, and Russia by performing Rachmaninoff's Cello Sonata with pianist Hyungeun Kang.

Somi Shin entered and graduated from Ewha Womans University College of Music with honors, completed her master's degree at the same graduate school, and completed the doctoral program at Busan National University Graduate School. She made her debut through the Chosun Ilbo Debut Concert, completed the Aspen Music Festival, performed at the Seoul Spring Festival of Chamber Music Fringe Festival, and gave an invited performance at the Busan Cultural Center Chamber Festival. She is currently active as a member of the Busan Philharmonic Orchestra.

Celebrating the opening of Nakdong Art Center in 2026, this young Busan-based cellist presents a stage that marks the beginning of a new cultural ecosystem.

The concert opens with Frank Bridge's lyrical miniatures as a warm welcome to the audience, then, through Ysaÿe's Sonata for Solo Cello, reveals without reserve the technical limits and solitary artistry of the cello as a solo instrument.

In the second half, Rachmaninoff's majestic sonata conveys the hopeful energy of overcoming a creative slump, offering the essence of chamber music through an intimate partnership with the piano.

This musical journey through Britain, Belgium and Russia will prove the passion and soaring spirit of a young performer on the new artistic ground of West Busan.

Like the flow of the Nakdong River, may the deep and dynamic melodies of the cello reach into the lives of local residents and move them deeply.
