PROFILE
Lee Ki-sun, known as a conductor who delivers profound music and accurately expresses the composer's intent, majored in Choral Conducting at The Juilliard School of Music for both his bachelor's and master's degrees. Returning to Korea in 1988, he has served as a pillar of the Korean choral scene by educating younger generations as a professor at Chongshin University and conducting professional choirs, including as Music Director of the Seongnam City Choral.
With a deep interest in orchestral conducting as well as choral music, he has conducted numerous domestic and international orchestras and opera companies. Setting off to study abroad again in 2003, he earned a doctorate in Orchestral Conducting from The University of Arizona. Following his return, he served as Music Director for the Goyang Civic Choir and Daegu City Choir. In December 2019, he was appointed as the 10th Artistic Director of the Busan Civic Choir, helping it grow into one of Korea's premier choirs in a short period. Always placing emphasis on performing and distributing new music, he introduces fresh works by making sure at least one-third of each concert program consists of premiered compositions. Through the 'Contemporary Music Series,' he presents the true essence of choral music while also offering audiences a rich variety of repertoire through large-scale choral works such as R. V. Williams' 'Dona nobis pacem' and W. Walton's 'Belshazzar's Feast'.
