At the Busan Cultural Center's planned performance 'Sound of Busan : All That Tchaikovsky', the United Korean Orchestra (U.K.O.) presents two of Tchaikovsky's representative masterworks that touch the soul with love, anguish, and passionate beauty: <Piano Concerto No. 1> and <Symphony No. 6 'Pathétique'>. Conductor Unai Urrecho Zubillaga has curated a program that allows the audience to fully experience the dramatic contrast and inner depth of these two works within a single concert, unfolding a moving panorama that encompasses an artist's fiery passion and confessional interiority beyond a simple listing of repertoire. First, <Piano Concerto No. 1> is a masterpiece beloved worldwide for its storm-like, magnificent introduction and explosive energy. Embracing youthful energy and noble passion, the piano and orchestra create a grand narrative as if engaging in dialogue. Portraying human struggle, joy, and strong willpower in the face of unpredictable fate, pianist Peter Ovtcharov will further illuminate the intrinsic beauty of the concerto with deep interpretation and refined tone. Following this, <Symphony No. 6 'Pathétique'> is the most intimate confession Tchaikovsky left at the end of his life, a masterpiece carrying a complex emotional arc where pain, hope, and sorrow intersect. Posing fundamental questions of human existence seeking a ray of light in darkness, this music leaves a profound resonance where the futility and beauty of life seep in simultaneously, especially in the final movement closing with a slow finale. Conductor Unai Urrecho Zubillaga and U.K.O will sincerely convey the musical density and inner resonance of this work based on meticulous balance and delicate expressiveness. Although the two works present a sharp contrast in form and emotion, they are ultimately connected by a single overarching theme: 'the purest and most intense emotions felt by humans.' If <Piano Concerto No. 1> is Tchaikovsky's fiery cry to the outside world, <Symphony No. 6> can be called a confessional monologue echoing from deep within his soul. This emotional contrast, meeting U.K.O's contemporary philosophy of sharing with society through music and their passionate musical commitment, will lead to an even deeper and more moving performance.

Unai Urrecho Zubillaga is highly acclaimed as a conductor who brings profound artistic devotion and human authenticity to every performance and opera stage. El Mundo Clásico praised his interpretation of Dvořák as "an elegant and precise maestro, a conductor who perfectly conceives sound and draws out the orchestra's highest potential," while Ópera Actual also lauded him, stating that "based on his outstanding musical intelligence and meticulous preparation, he led the orchestra not merely as an accompanist, but as a central protagonist of the drama." Unai Urrecho engages in wide-ranging conducting activities spanning symphonic music and opera, primarily in Asia and Europe, and currently serves as a professor of conducting at the University of Suwon, dedicating himself to nurturing younger generations. Prior to his career as a conductor, he established a solid foundation as an orchestral musician. He performed with world-renowned ensembles such as the Boston Symphony Orchestra, New World Symphony Orchestra, and São Paulo Symphony Orchestra, expanding his musical depth through collaborations with prominent conductors including Kurt Masur, Seiji Ozawa, James Conlon, Sir Colin Davis, and Juanjo Mena. He began his musical studies at an academy in his hometown, graduated from the Higher Conservatory of Music of San Sebastián with top honors, and entered Boston University in the United States as a scholar of the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council. At Boston University, he was honored with a full scholarship and an assistantship appointment, completing his studies after winning the university's Soloist Competition. Subsequently, he gained international performance experience participating in the European Union Youth Orchestra, Basque Youth Orchestra (founding member), Spoleto Festival, and Tanglewood Music Festival. He completed his conducting studies by earning master's and doctoral degrees in opera and orchestral conducting under Maestro Sygmon Kawalla at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, Poland. Unai Urrecho continues an active international career conducting major orchestras in Korea, Romania, and Russia. He conducted Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 with the KBS Symphony Orchestra at Lotte Concert Hall in Seoul, performed Mahler's Symphony No. 5 with the Seongnam Philharmonic Orchestra, and performed works by Beethoven and Mozart with the Romanian National Radio Orchestra. He also premiered works by Basque composers and illuminated Ravel's musical world with the St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra. In the opera field, he is a deeply trusted conductor especially in Korea, having conducted a broad repertoire including Puccini's Madama Butterfly, Tosca, and La Bohème; Mozart's Don Giovanni, The Marriage of Figaro, and The Magic Flute; Verdi's Rigoletto, La Traviata, and Aida; Bizet's Carmen; Gounod's Faust; Rossini's La Cenerentola; and Johann Strauss II's Die Fledermaus. In the 2025–26 season, he is scheduled to perform with the Korea United Symphony Orchestra, Prime Philharmonic Orchestra, Basque National Youth Orchestra, among others.

Peter Ovtcharov

Pianist Peter Ovtcharov was born into a Russian artistic family and studied at the St. Petersburg Academy for Young Musicians, which produced world-renowned musicians such as Grigory Sokolov, Valery Gergiev, and Gidon Kremer. He studied under the eminent German professor Karl-Heinz Kämmerling and graduated from the Mozarteum University Salzburg. He has performed as a soloist and orchestral soloist in leading concert halls across Europe and Asia. Moscow

He has performed in major cities around the world, including the Great Hall of the Conservatory, the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein, Tokyo Opera City Hall, the Kirov Theatre, Mozarteum Great Hall, Prague Rudolfinum Hall, Shanghai Oriental Arts Center, and Seoul Arts Center. He won 2nd prize at the Vladimir Krainev International Young Pianists Competition in Kharkiv, Ukraine (1992), a silver medal at the 3rd International Young Tchaikovsky Competition (1997), 1st prize at the Austrian Competition 'Gradus ad Parnassum' (2004), the Silvio Bengali Piano Prize (2004), and 3rd prize at the Vienna International Beethoven Piano Competition (2005). In 2006, he was awarded the Luitpold Prize as 'Artist of the Year' at the world-renowned German festival "Kissinger Sommer". He began his career as an educator early, even before completing his final studies. From 2008 to 2022, he was invited as a resident musician and professor at 'Allegro Vivo', an international music festival held in Austria, where he nurtured younger students through masterclasses. In 2010, he became Korea's youngest full professor. He also gives masterclasses and lectures in Korea, Japan, Taiwan, China, Austria, Italy, Russia, and France. He serves as a juror in competitions and engages in various activities such as guiding his students to win prizes at international competitions and enter leading music universities worldwide. From 2018 to 2022, he served as the founder and artistic director of 'Schumann Academy Positano', an international music festival held at the private villa of the famous German pianist Wilhelm Kempff on the Amalfi Coast in Italy. In 2020, he released a CD under Gramola, Vienna's oldest classical music record label, receiving praise from BBC Music Magazine and Luxembourg Pizzicato Magazine. He has also actively devoted himself to composition, writing solo piano, chamber music, vocal, and symphonic works. His solo piano album was released in December 2021. Peter Ovtcharov has maintained active artistic exchanges and collaborations with bass Kwangchul Youn, performing with soprano Julia Lezhneva and bass Kwangchul Youn at the invitation of the Tongyeong International Music Festival in 2022. In addition to the Tongyeong International Music Festival, he has successfully performed with bass Kwangchul Youn in various domestic concerts. Bass Kwangchul Youn also premiered an original composition by Peter Ovtcharov. Since 2014, he has served as a professor at the College of Music, Yonsei University, and has been invited as a guest professor to the summer academies of Mozarteum Salzburg and University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (MDW). He has performed on major concert stages in Korea, and his performances have been broadcast on SBS, MBC, YTN, and ARTE TV.

United Korean Orchestra (U.K.O.) was founded in 2006 with the aim of offering hope through music to children suffering from intractable diseases such as pediatric cancer and heart disease. Starting with members of the Busan Philharmonic Orchestra as its core, it currently consists of talented musicians from Busan's music scene, presenting high-level performances. Beginning with its inaugural concert at the Busan Cultural Center on November 9, 2006, U.K.O. has been actively performing both at home and abroad. Through more than 70 diverse performances to date—including invited concerts by the Korean American Association of Los Angeles in 2007, invited concerts in Jeju and Gimhae, an invited performance by the Koreatown Youth & Community Center at Walt Disney Concert Hall in LA in 2009, a concert in Jiangsu, China in 2012, a concert celebrating the 50th anniversary of Korea-New Zealand diplomatic relations, an invited concert by the Mongolian Culture Agency, and an invited concert by the Korean Association in Vienna, Austria—the orchestra has delivered profound emotional experiences. Furthermore, it has gained recognition for its wide musical spectrum through collaborations with the Busan City Choir and Busan Opera Company. Through pure musical endeavors, U.K.O. strives to raise public awareness about the pain of patients and their families, inspiring new hope with beautiful melodies. By donating all proceeds from ticket sales, it provides practical aid to children, serving as a stepping stone to rekindle the fading embers of young lives. As a result, approximately 550 million KRW in donations has been delivered to around 260 children with intractable diseases and vulnerable social groups to date. The orchestra is operated through monthly dues from members and sponsorships from benefactors. To encourage active participation from society, U.K.O. continuously strengthens its musical capabilities. Moving forward, all members will do their best to invite outstanding conductors and collaborators, striving for even higher quality performances.
